A Word Of Warning To Would-Be Setter Owners
Oh yes, they are so beautiful,
So elegant and fine,
So you would like to own one,
Just like this pair of mine?
Their coats look very healthy,
Just see the silvery shine,
But have you ever stopped to think
This takes my precious time?
They need a lot of exercise
To keep them looking fine,
And three miles daily running
Is nothing, to these dear friends of mine.
So, if you think this walking
Would soon have you on your knees,
Then be happy, just admire them,
But do not buy one please.
A Setter needs a lot of love
His spirit would soon bend,
If you could not return the love
Of this true and faithful friend.
They're "Gentlemen by Nature"
My heart they stole away,
But sometimes I must leave them,
At home, alone, to play.
And that is when they're naughty,
Although they never mean to be,
My sideboard, books and table,
All chewed when I come home for tea.
All this I can forgive them
As my love for them is strong,
But if you too could not forgive,
To own one would be wrong.
So although you may admire them
As we are passing by,
Think hard, think very seriously,
Before you rush out to buy!
